SmartPass is an entire software platform and ecosystem, which works seamlessly with other Trapeze components such as the LA-200 Location Appliance and RingMaster network management tool. It is also designed to work with external software applications such as credit card billing systems, guest registration systems, facility management systems, and custom reporting systems using the Web-based APIs.

Sample applications of SmartPass include: changing the type of network resources for which a user has access depending on the time of day and/or location; providing guest access to the Internet only but not LAN, and preventing guest access to the Internet unless the guest is in a specific area of the building or conference room; stopping anyone from obtaining network access once they step outside the building; locking out or reducing bandwidth available for bandwidth abusers, and virtually any other access control application that can be thought of using location, date, time, amount of traffic-based and other user-centric criteria.

SmartPass gives IT managers full control over client access to their Wi-Fi networks. The network manager can fine tune access and authorization on the wireless LAN to an extent never before possible, both for primary users and for guests.

With SmartPass, you not only permit or deny access, but can also change authorization attributes – what resources the user has access to – on the fly, based on changing conditions and user activity.
