DUTCH BOOK DISTRIBUTOR, CENTRAAL BOEKHUIS, SELECTS TRAPEZE NETWORKS WIRELESS LAN MOBILITY SYSTEM FOR VITAL LOGISTICS APPLICATIONS
PLEASANTON, CA, February 21, 2006 – Trapeze Networks™, the award winning provider of the wireless LAN (WLAN) Mobility System™, today announced that Centraal Boekhuis of Culemborg (the Netherlands), one of Europe’s largest book distributors, has begun to replace its first generation wireless infrastructure with a Trapeze wireless solution.
Centraal Boekhuis has been the warehouse and distribution center of practically all book publishers in the Netherlands since the end of the 19th century. Today, its highly automated storage, order picking, and dispatching location in Culemborg ships over 60 million books every year as well as some 3 million office products to nearly 2,000 book shops and other outlets all across the Netherlands and Dutch-speaking Belgium.
Centraal Boekhuis needed a new wireless infrastructure to replace its first-generation system of over 50 fat access points throughout its warehouse. It was Trapeze channel partner VOSKO who helped Centraal Boekhuis select a new and better wireless networking solution on which to run this million-book distributor’s vital logistics processes.
“We selected Trapeze for a number of reasons,” said Marco Van Hattem, systems and network specialist for Centraal Boekhuis. “We have been using a wireless network for our logistics operations since the mid 1990s. Our first generation WLAN had all sorts of problems including slow data rates, poor network coverage, no power-over-Ethernet ports and no centralized management. With Trapeze, these requirements are met easily. We not only get centralized management with RingMaster™, Trapeze’s planning, configuration and management software tool suite, but there is no additional wiring required for power-over-Ethernet and we now get excellent coverage in our high-rise areas.
“Centraal Boekhuis was keen on investigating the Trapeze wireless solution after hearing of similar companies who have saved money and increased system performance after going with the Trapeze solution,” said Ronald Jansen, VOSKO’s account manager for the transport and logistic industries. On top of that, Trapeze also offers a clear and easy path towards voice-over-wireless IP, and Trapeze’s product line is fully compatible with Nortel, which is the platform for the wired network at Centraal Boekhuis.”
Centraal Boekhuis has already replaced half of their old access points with Trapeze Mobility Point™ (MP-372™) thin access points. The second leg of the migration will take place by mid-2006. Centraal Boekhuis also has installed two Trapeze Mobility Exchange™ (MX-400™) WLAN switches and RingMaster to make the network fully redundant. With almost every customer ordering through the Internet and expecting quick delivery, Centraal Boekhuis simply cannot afford any network downtime or performance problems for its Oracle storage and order picking application.
“With the Trapeze wireless infrastructure in place we have already seen an increase in the service level for our 75 concurrent users of our logistics system. Trapeze’s WLAN Mobility System definitely offers the high throughput, excellent coverage, maximum security, and ease-of-use that we demand,” Van Hattem concluded.
