CERTIFIED PARTS WAREHOUSE KEEPS TRACK OF INVENTORY WITH A TRAPEZE NETWORKS WIRELESS LAN
PLEASANTON, Calif. — April 11, 2005 — Trapeze Networks™, award winning provider of the wireless LAN (WLAN) Mobility System™, today announced Certified Parts Warehouse, a provider of high quality spares for IBM ThinkPad and point of sale equipment, installed a Trapeze WLAN in order to keep track of inventory instantaneously, significantly increasing productivity.
Certified Parts needed its inventory to be kept up to date all the time in a quick and efficient manner. Warehouse employees and contractors use wireless notebooks and scanners to scan bar codes off the shelf and enter the number of parts in that location. Certified Parts soon realized that installing a wireless network was more a necessity than a luxury.
"After installing the Trapeze WLAN, we noticed a large productivity gain," said Giff Hammar, information technology director at Certified Parts Warehouse.
The warehouse at Certified Parts encompasses approximately 22,000 square feet and has very high ceilings. Exposed steel girders and large steel pallet racks take up the majority of the space inside the warehouse. This made WLAN RF coverage and access point (AP) placement a major challenge.
"Trapeze's RingMaster planning and management tool suite made it all simple," said Hammar. "RingMaster was instrumental in planning our RF environment and determining where to place APs for optimal coverage."
The form factor of Trapeze Mobility Points also proved to be a selling point for Certified Parts Warehouse. The radios aren't easily recognizable, making them less likely to be stolen or tampered with.
Before Hammar joined Certified Parts Warehouse, the company had already installed a first-generation SOHO WLAN product that had proven to be very unreliable, especially for its high-security needs.
"Trapeze is far superior to the wireless equipment we had," said Hammar. "The Trapeze Mobility System has strong policy management so I can define and apply a policy to any AP on the network. I can quickly deploy more APs as my needs grow, saving me considerable time and resources in the long run. We estimated that we have saved about 80% of the total cost with Trapeze."
