NETCOLOGNE DEPLOYS TRAPEZE NETWORKS WLAN AT GERMANY'S KOELNMESSE EXHIBITION CENTER
Trapeze WLAN Offers Real Business Benefits for Exhibitors at the Koelnmesse Exhibition Center PLEASANTON, Calif. — March 7, 2005 — Trapeze Networks™, maker of award-winning wireless local area networking (WLAN) systems, today announced that NetCologne, one of Germany's pre-eminent metro and regional service providers, has installed a Trapeze WLAN throughout the expanse of halls, exhibit areas and press offices at the mammoth Koelnmesse event center.
NetCologne has been the official carrier for Koelnmesse for several years, providing telecom and data networking services to visitors, exhibitors, the media and in-house staff. With the Trapeze Mobility System™, these constituents will have secure, on-demand WLAN access at Koelnmesse, enabling the vast center to eliminate the cost and complexity of cabling.
"Implementing a WLAN at Koelnmesse made good business sense because of the ever-changing exhibition environment and dynamic flow of visitors," said Ivan Andric, Manager Systems Engineering at NetCologne. "After thoroughly testing several WLAN products, we determined that Trapeze offered the best approach because of its architecture, central planning and management capabilities. Having such granular control over Trapeze Mobility Points™ is very useful in our dynamic environment."
The immense Koelnmesse facility has low ceilings and a multitude of columns throughout the premises that are filled with several kilometers of cabling. Ordinarily, these obstacles would make wireless planning and installation difficult and necessitate a multitude of access points. However, with the Trapeze RingMaster™ planning and management tool suite, these obstacles were overcome quite easily by the installation team at TGS-Telonic Ltd., a premier Trapeze system integrator.
"After importing CAD building plans into the system, RingMaster showed us quickly how many Mobility Exchange switches and Mobility Points we needed and where to install them to give us the precise RF coverage throughout Koelnmesse," said Klaus Heidelberg, network consultant for TGS-Telonic's technology team.
The Trapeze WLAN Mobility System will also be deployed throughout Koelnmesse's newly built facilities in early 2006. Four exhibition halls encompassing 80,000 square meters of indoor space and 75,000 square meters of outdoor space are currently under construction. It includes a modern "tradeshow boulevard" that winds its way across the event center grounds to connect all the halls and a new south entrance to welcome visitors.
