TRAPEZE NETWORKS EXTENDS LEAD IN WLAN MANAGEMENT WITH NEW CAPABILITIES FOR SIMPLIFYING CONFIGURATION, SCALING MONITORING, MOBILITY MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Jan. 17, 2005 — Trapeze Networks™, maker of award-winning wireless local area networking (WLAN) systems, today announced significant enhancements to its RingMaster™ WLAN lifecycle management suite.

In addition to best-in-class RF planning, RingMaster lifecycle management includes new wizard-based configuration tools, automatic configuration verification, advanced change management, highly scalable monitoring servers, and new time-based reports.

As WLANs grow, hundreds of devices must be configured and thousands of roaming 802.11 clients must be monitored. The cost to implement and maintain a WLAN can add up quickly and dwarf capital costs by 2-1. IT organizations can reduce operating costs with the right set of WLAN management tools.

"RingMaster is unique because I can manage every aspect of the wireless network with the same set of tools that I use for RF planning," said Chip Greel, senior network architect at Finisar Corp. "I save countless hours using RingMaster, starting with RF planning, and then it provides me with superb configuration, monitoring and reporting capabilities. RingMaster just keeps getting better and better."

Management is essential in any 802.11 enterprise deployment, and choosing the right set of WLAN management tools is important.

"It might seem odd, but we see management capabilities as perhaps the most important part of a wireless LAN system, and a key differentiator," said Craig Mathias, a principal at the wireless advisory firm Farpoint Group. "Trapeze realized this early on, and has continued to enhance their products with the tools vital to large-scale deployments."

Configuration Wizards with Automatic Configuration Verification
RingMaster configuration wizards walk administrators through the configuration process. Feature configuration details are a mouse click away to answer questions as they arise. Device configurations are automatically verified in real time with an embedded rules engine. Instant feedback is provided for configuration errors and suggested fixes can be implemented with a single mouse click.

Real-Time Change Management
An enterprise-class multi-user application, RingMaster now includes real-time change management features that automatically detect and alert RingMaster users to any configuration changes that occur in Mobility Exchange switches and Mobility Points by any administrator, anywhere in the network. Network administrators are always aware of changes made by others so they always understand the latest configuration, eliminating errors and duplication of effort.

A Dashboard for Wireless Network Monitoring
RingMaster now has a sophisticated monitoring window or "dashboard", which provides simple navigation through a wireless network to obtain detailed performance and fault information. To promote scaling, resiliency and non stop, 24-x-7 operation, RingMaster was also migrated to a client server architecture with distributed monitoring servers.

Information about network topology, fault and performance data, the RF environment and client activity is collected and stored by the monitoring servers so that extremely large networks consisting of 1,000s of mobile devices can now be effectively monitored. This new feature gives IT organizations unprecedented visibility into the myriad activities and performance metrics of their Trapeze wireless network.

Mobile Device Management
Another RingMaster first is mobile Wi-Fi device management, which allows IT to view and track mobile users performance and signal strength as they roam from access point to access point. This feature greatly enhances problem-resolution by delivering per-session statistics and providing around-the-clock performance monitoring of individual mobile devices.

Reporting of WLAN Parameters
Reporting drives the network planning cycle, providing essential performance and configuration data to ensure the success of future network build outs. Reports can cover Mobility Domain configuration, Mobility Exchange configuration, RF summary, traffic patterns, radio details, watch list clients, client errors, client session summary, client session details, a rogue summary and rogue details.

RingMaster allows the report time period to be specified from as little as an hour to as long as 30 days. The report scope can be a site, building, floor, Mobility Domain, switch, access point, radio or client device

Pricing and Availability
These new RingMaster WLAN management features are available now. Pricing for RingMaster starts at $1,995.
