MDL EMPLOYEES REAP THE BENEFITS OF WIRELESS SERVICES WITH THE TRAPEZE NETWORKS MOBILITY SYSTEM

PLEASANTON, Calif. — May 17, 2004 — Trapeze Networks™, maker of the award-winning wireless LAN (WLAN) Mobility System™, today announced that MDL Information Systems, Inc., an Elsevier company, chose Trapeze to provide secure wireless access to 500 employees at its San Leandro, Calif. headquarters.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Elsevier, Inc., MDL is part of Elsevier Life Sciences. Over 1,000 life science companies supercharge their discovery engines with MDL software solutions to generate fresh ideas and make breakthrough discoveries. By synchronizing and streamlining the sharing and management of vital information and knowledge, MDL enables scientists to work more efficiently and invent drugs faster. MDL is headquartered in San Leandro, CA with offices worldwide.

MDL decided to offer wireless service after the executives and the sales staff began bringing in wireless access points (APs) from home. Employees liked the benefits and flexibility of wireless. Instead of vying for a limited number of hard-wired Ethernet ports in a meeting room, employees could work online at any location throughout headquarters.

In response to the user push for wireless technology, the MDL IS department evaluated several next-generation wireless LAN solutions that would scale as the company's wireless needs expanded. After a detailed evaluation of wireless LAN infrastructure solutions from startups as well as incumbent vendors, MDL chose Trapeze Networks because of its secure mobility, scalability and management capabilities.

"Trapeze is rock-solid," said Coy Thorp, network systems administrator at MDL. "The Trapeze architecture is designed for mobility, which makes it far superior to any other solution. Also, the RingMaster planning and deployment tool suite let us create a policy once and then apply it to the configurations of all the Mobility Points™ and Mobility Exchanges™ throughout the network. Other wireless products force you to do this on a switch-by-switch and AP-by-AP basis, which increases our operating costs."

The Trapeze Networks Mobility System delivers best-in-class secure mobility, the broadest range of WLAN services, and the lowest total cost of ownership. The Mobility System consists of the Mobility Exchange (MX), a new class of switch that lets users' identities roam with them; the Mobility Point (MP™), an access point that optimizes WLAN services; Mobility System Software™, which integrates wired with wireless; and RingMaster™, a suite of planning and management tools.
