TRAPEZE NETWORKS WIRELESS LAN BOOSTS ORDER PROCESSING CAPACITY FOR MUSIC RETAILER?S EXPANDING ONLINE BUSINESS
PLEASANTON, Calif. — February 2, 2004 — Trapeze Networks™ today announced that Musikhaus Thomann (www.thomann.de), one of Europe's largest music retailers, installed the Trapeze wireless LAN Mobility System™, resulting in a 25 percent increase in order processing capacity, no holiday shipment delays, and higher customer satisfaction ratings.
Working with Trapeze reseller SEiCOM, Musikhaus Thomann deployed the Mobility System so that its 200 employees could use tablet PCs, handheld scanners and laptops in their 5,000-square-meter showroom, 4,500 square-meter logistics center and 1,500 square-meter logistics hall at three different locations. As a result, the company improved operations efficiency and access to information about customer orders, inventory and shipments.
"After evaluating several WLAN products we quickly discovered that the Trapeze Mobility System is the best WLAN product available," said Stefan Thomann, co-founder of Musikhaus Thomann, based in Treppendorf, Germany. "Trapeze's simple, effective and secure approach to wireless networking is substantially better then the rest of the companies I've seen."
Musikhaus Thomann also sells products through its web site, which has over 100,000 pages and features 17,000 items, including a variety of musical instruments, sound and lighting equipment and accessories. It has a half-million customers in 10 different countries, which, on a given day, can generate 5,000 requests and orders.
"We were limited by our wired infrastructure until we installed the Trapeze Mobility System," continued Thomann. "With Trapeze, order delays and logistics problems have disappeared. Now we can dispatch nearly 2,000 packages to customers throughout Europe only seconds after confirming an order. Our wireless investment has already paid off."
The Trapeze Mobility System includes the Mobility Exchange™ (MX™) switch, Mobility Point™ (MP™), Mobility System Software™ (MSS™) and RingMaster™ software tool suite, which enables IT managers to perform RF coverage verification, RF topology mapping, capacity planning, virtual site surveys and automatic configuration and deployment systemwide.
Combining secure mobility with integrated authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA), the Trapeze Mobility System lets Musikhaus Thomann employees log into the network once and retain their access rights as they roam. Using Identity-Based Networking, mobile users, applications and services, are tracked according to personal identity, instead of by port or device.
Because Trapeze treats air like wire, Musikhaus Thomann found it easy to integrate the Mobility System with its existing network. There was no need for client or network protocol changes. Mobile users are kept on their native subnets and virtual LANs no matter where they roam.
The Mobility System's ability to track user location and roaming history is indispensable for Musikhaus Thomann. If a handheld terminal or scanner is not returned to its docking station, the Mobility System shows the location of the misplaced device. If it malfunctions, its configuration is quickly restored in a replacement device with one mouse click and without touching the client.
Musikhaus Thomann will soon offer free WLAN access to showroom visitors, most of who come from other countries. Dynamic Layer 2 virtual LANs will keep guest traffic separate from other internal traffic groups. Visitors will be able to access the Internet and receive special online promotions from Musikhaus Thomann, but they won't have access to internal network resources.
