TAMESIDE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL CHOOSES TELINDUS AND TRAPEZE NETWORKS FOR WIRELESS LAN
Secure Mobility Solution Gives Greater Flexibility to Council Employees on the Move
PLEASANTON, Calif. — December 15, 2003 — Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council has chosen pan-European network solutions and services provider, Telindus, to implement Trapeze Networks™ wireless local area network (WLAN) Mobility System™ for its main building in Ashton-under-Lyme, Manchester.
Tameside opted for a wireless network in place of upgrading the existing cabling structure in its offices. The system, designed and being installed by Telindus, will give greater flexibility to Council employees on the move and could be extended into public buildings.
"Trapeze's system is head and shoulders above others on the market and we have a long-standing relationship with Telindus, so the fact it is working with Trapeze is ideal," says Peter Faulkner, network team leader at Tameside. "The system's integrated planning and management tool has allowed us to assess and test the number of Mobility Points™ we need up front and the strong encryption and authentication technologies mean we don't have to worry about security."
Nick Kimber, Public Sector account manager at Telindus, comments: "Implementing wireless used to be trial and error, but Trapeze's system allows for proper planning. Its seamless integration with the wired infrastructure makes it the most cost-effective solution for businesses wanting to connect large numbers of people to a wireless network." Trapeze's system also supports secure mobility, so that users can move from zone to zone without having to change IP addresses.
"This is a great example of how secure wireless can easily be put into practice in local government," says Kees van Veenendaal, managing director and vice president of sales, for EMEA at Trapeze Networks. "The reliability of the system means we can ensure quality of service and flexibility for the Council's users. We're looking forward to extending it to other Council buildings in the future."
