TRAPEZE NETWORKS DELIVERS HIGH-PERFORMANCE WI-FI INFRASTRUCTURE FOR SC07

Smart Mobileā„¢ Wireless Network Scales for More Than 9,000 Attendees, Exhibitors and Staff

PLEASANTON, Calif., November 12, 2007 – Trapeze Networks®, the award-winning provider of Smart Mobile wireless solutions, today announced that its Smart Mobile wireless local area network (WLAN) has been deployed at the international SC07 conference, held in Reno, Nevada from November 10 – 16. The Wi-Fi network provides ubiquitous connectivity for the more than 330 industrial and research exhibitors and thousands of scientists, college students, researchers, software developers, network engineers, policy makers, corporate managers, CIOs and other attendees to allow them to work remotely, send and receive email, and transfer very large files wirelessly during the conference. These “power” computing enthusiasts demand the utmost in high performance and highly resilient wired and wireless networks for the event.

Trapeze’s highly scalable Wi-Fi network was implemented by the SCinet team throughout the entire Reno-Sparks Convention Center, which houses state-of-the-art research, applications and achievements in high-performance computing, networking, storage, and analysis. The SCinet team manages the supercomputing SCinet infrastructure, comprised of a high-performance production-quality network and an extremely high-performance experimental network called Xnet. SCinet demanded an equally powerful Wi-Fi network for the event, which they recognized in Trapeze Smart Mobile.

“It goes without saying that the heavy computing demands of SC07 require a robust Wi-Fi infrastructure that can scale to support the thousands of users at the show,” said Jackie Kern, director, Internal Infrastructure at The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) and chair of the SCinet committee. “After considering several vendors, we selected Trapeze for a number of reasons, including its scaleable architecture, powerful performance, and ease of use.”

The Smart Mobile wireless system from Trapeze features 2 MX200 WLAN controllers and 96 MP422 Access Points and will support approximately 1,500 simultaneous users at the conference’s dense computing environment.
The MX-200 WLAN controller is designed for data center applications and features 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports which accept Small-Form Pluggable (SFP) optics for 1000BASE-SX/LX fiber connectivity, or 1000BASE-T unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) environments, and can be ordered with an optional redundant power supply. The MP-422 features dual radios (802.11a and 802.11b/g) with dual diversity antennas on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands and two 10/100 Fast Ethernet ports for redundant connectivity and 802.3af Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). Distributed forwarding can be enabled in the MP-422, resulting in optimized traffic flow, radically reduced latency, ultra high performance, and massive scalability.

About Trapeze Networks
Trapeze Networks delivers Smart Mobile™ — a ground-breaking approach to wireless networking, enabling organizations to deploy massively scalable mobile applications that leverage their existing infrastructure. Smart Mobile achieves this breakthrough by introducing intelligent switching, the first and only WLAN architecture that optimizes network traffic based on the underlying application. With Smart Mobile intelligent switching, organizations can support the most demanding next generation wireless applications such as toll-quality voice over WLAN for thousands of users, seamless indoor/outdoor mobility, and high-speed networks based on 802.11n — all without requiring expensive forklift upgrades. Trapeze Networks is well-capitalized, with strategic investments from networking industry leaders including Juniper Networks, Motorola, and Nortel Networks. Founded in March 2002, Trapeze is headquartered in Pleasanton, California, with operations in Europe, Japan, and Asia-Pacific. For more information, please visit www.trapezenetworks.com.
