TRAPEZE NETWORKS ENTERS ITALIAN MARKET WITH INNOVATIVE WIRELESS LAN MOBILITY SYTEM DELIVERING ?IDENTITY BASED NETWORKING? TO THE ENTERPRISE
Silicon Valley WLAN Start-up Announces Telena as Italian Market Partner. Trapeze Delivers New Class of Networking Technology, Overcoming Critical Issues Standing in the Way of Enterprise WLAN Deployments.
Milan, October 7, 2003 - Trapeze Networks™, the global provider of the enterprise wireless LAN (WLAN) Mobility System™, today announced an agreement with Telena to resell, deploy and support Trapeze's WLAN Mobility Systems across Italy.
Trapeze Networks Mobility System is the first WLAN system using "Identity Based Networking" allowing users to login once, roam and retain their access privileges and polices wherever they go. The Trapeze Mobility System includes the Mobility Exchange™, Mobility Points™, Mobility System Software™ and the RingMaster™ tool suite. Together, they share a system-wide control plane and data plane that delivers secure user mobility, seamless wired and wireless integration, and tools to plan and manage large enterprises.
"Trapeze Networks is bringing the mobility of cellular phone technology to high speed enterprise data networking," said Jim Flach, President and CEO of Trapeze Networks. "Our mission fits perfectly with a booming market like Italy, where demand for WLAN technology is growing rapidly. With the help of Telena, we will enable Italian enterprises to overcome traditional enterprise implementation challenges such as security, rogue detection and scalability as well as the task of planning and deployment."
"We have high expectations for our relationship with Telena - the company has been active for over twenty years in the Italian telecommunications and networking markets and are a recognized authority in this area. Their extensive experience combined with Trapeze's end-to-end wireless LAN solution will fulfill the market's growing demand for seamless integration, secure mobility, and planning and management tools," concluded Kees van Veenendaal, EMEA Managing Director for Trapeze Networks.
Founded in March 2002 by veterans from some of the world's most successful telecommunications and networking vendors, Trapeze Networks is the only company to address the three major challenges related to implementing a scalable WLAN infrastructure - seamlessly integration of wired and wireless, pre- and post-deployment planning and management tools and secure user mobility. Trapeze's Mobility System is able to provide all of this and, moreover, it enhances productivity, reduces costs, introduces efficiencies and accelerates business response time.
"The benefit of the Trapeze Mobility System is that it eliminates the cost and complexity of integration, security and management of multiple WLAN point products and appliances from different vendors," said Fabio Rossi, Sales and Marketing Director, Telena. "By seamlessly integrating wired with wireless, businesses no longer need to treat the WLAN as an independent, parallel, add-on infrastructure with its own unique set of problems and costs."
Treating Air Like Wire
Wireless LAN technologies were designed to reduce infrastructure costs and help staff to be mobile to allow more flexibility and productivity in the workplace.
Rossi added: "The deployment of rogue WLAN access points is one of today's biggest challenges for enterprise IT departments in Italy. By partnering with Trapeze Networks and their WLAN Mobility System, Telena will be able to answer the increasing user need of having secure network access whilst away from their desks, as well as drive the integration of the wired and wireless infrastructure."
Trapeze's Mobility System is designed to deliver secure mobility backed by planning, deployment and management tools to ensure seamless integration with existing networks. By supporting both structured wire and structured air in exactly the same way, Trapeze Networks Wireless LAN Mobility System eliminates the need for separate wired and wireless networks, allowing users to retain the same virtual LANs and access rights wherever they roam.
Trapeze's WLAN Mobility System
The Trapeze wireless LAN system includes the following:
- Mobility Exchange (MX™) switch. A new class of networking device that delivers Identity-Based Networking. Since mobile enterprise users can connect to the WLAN from a variety of locations, the MX shifts the management focal point from device ports and fixed geography to user identities and the services they need no matter where they are. The MX integrates seamlessly with existing wired infrastructures and requires no changes to clients or network protocols.
- Mobility Point (MP™) access points. Devices which increase secure mobility and provide WLAN connectivity for users. MPs are fully controlled by the MX and have no local store of data. Keeping sensitive data on the MX rather than the MP eliminates the vulnerability most access points (APs) create by leaving substantial network and user intelligence open to hacking or theft in an unsecured location.
- Mobility System Software (MSS™). Leveraging the integrated architecture of the MX and MP across an entire network of MXs, the MSS allows them to operate as a single mobility system. In conjunction with RingMaster, it also plays a crucial role in rogue detection and reporting.
- RingMaster. Trapeze's planning, deployment and management tool suite enables IT managers to perform pre- and post-deployment planning, configuration, verification, management and optimization of the WLAN infrastructure.
