THE UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS SELECTS TRAPEZE SMART MOBILE FOR CAMPUS WIDE MOBILITY FOR THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS
Trapeze is Chosen Over Other Vendors for Advanced Scalability, Security, and Management Capabilities
PLEASANTON, Calif., March 5, 2007 - Trapeze Networks™, the award-winning provider of Smart Mobile™ wireless solutions, today announced The University of the Arts (UARTS), has deployed a Trapeze wireless LAN (WLAN) to extend its existing wired LAN. The expanded network meets faculty and student’s growing connectivity needs associated with increased laptop use and demanding curriculum requirements. With Trapeze’s WLAN, users with mobile devices can now enjoy the same network resources as users on the wired LAN, whether it is accessing email, the Internet, the campus portal or streaming media.
The 130-year old creative arts institution, located in Philadelphia, is comprised of approximately 950 staff and faculty and around 2,500 students, with a Gigabit backbone connecting four buildings and 33 floors. UARTS sought Trapeze’s WLAN extension for its scalability and seamless integration into their existing infrastructure. The University also needed a solution that would support its future plans, which include implementing VoIP and ultimately converging its data and voice networks.
“The Trapeze security features were a major factor in our purchasing decision. It was a natural fit into our existing network security framework due to its comprehensive offering and still delivered an extremely scaleable and robust WLAN,” said, Jeffrey Basoff, Director of Network Services at UARTS. “After evaluating products from several vendors we simply could not ignore the security, ease of installation, management functionality and enormous cost-savings inherent to Trapeze’s architecture.
Trapeze’s Ringmaster management functionality also played an important role in the procurement decision. UARTS uses Trapeze’s latest version of Ringmaster, which includes auto-DAP configuration and integration with HP open view. It also encompasses reporting features, RF and rogue detection management. The University purchased Trapeze’s MX-400 with MP-372 and RingMaster platform.
“As students and faculty become increasingly mobile, universities face pressure to expand wireless coverage beyond the traditional computer lab to multiple buildings, and in many cases, outside the classroom to the outdoors,” said Trapeze President and CEO Jim Vogt. “We’re happy to work with The University of the Arts to deploy a wireless solution that delivers secure network access to its users no matter where they are on campus.”
