TRAPEZE NETWORKS DRIVES THE INTEGRATION OF WIRED AND WIRELESS NETWORK IN FRENCH ENTERPRISE

Silicon Valley WLAN start-up announces local partners to target French market

PARIS, France - October 13, 2003 - Trapeze Networks™, the global provider of the enterprise wireless LAN (WLAN) Mobility System™, today named Dynetcom Technologies and Silicomp Reseaux as local partners to resell, deploy and support Trapeze Mobility Systems across France.

The company's flagship Trapeze Mobility System is unique in the French market and designed to deploy, manage and secure WLANs in exactly the same manner, and to the same standards, as traditional corporate wired networks.

"With all three local mobile carriers launching wireless LAN services this year, the largest of whom is projecting over 6,000 wireless hotspots by 2005, the French public are well aware of the benefits of wireless LAN technology. So, being first to market in France with a corporate wireless LAN offering is vital for us," said Jim Flach, President and Chief Executive Officer, Trapeze Networks. "Wireless LAN technology has been attracting enormous interest for the last few years, and accounted for over 20 percent of all US venture capital investments last year alone. Now this trend is spreading to Europe, and I believe the real opportunity lies within the corporate environment where the demands in terms of security and network management are more exacting."

Treating Air Like Wire
Wireless LAN technologies enable mobile users to connect to a local area network (LAN) over distances of up to 100 metres through a wireless (radio) connection based on IEEE 802.11 standards. Employed within a corporate environment, wireless LAN technology can reduce infrastructure costs and help staff to be mobile, increasing flexibility and productivity in the workplace. Trapeze's Mobility System is designed to harness this potential by delivering secure mobility backed by planning, deployment and management tools to ensure seamless integration with existing networks.

"Because Trapeze treats air like wire, our wireless LAN Mobility System integrates seamlessly with your existing network infrastructure," continued Flach. "By supporting both structured wire and structured air in exactly the same way, there is no need for separate wired and wireless networks - users retain the same virtual LANs and access rights wherever they roam."

"Trapeze is the only company to address three major challenges to corporate adoption of Wireless LAN technology. First, seamless integration within an enterprise's wired and wireless infrastructure. Secondly, planning, deployment, configuration and management tools. And finally, all this within an environment as secure as a traditional wired network," concluded Flach.

Jean-Robert Pozo, President, Silicomp Reseaux, said that users like the convenience of having network access whether it be on their laptop, PDA or WLAN cell phone whilst away from their desk.

"Many people are already enjoying the benefits for wireless LANs at work. All too often, however, devices are deployed 'unofficially' without corporate IT approval, at the expense of security and beyond the reach of network management tools. Our partnership with Trapeze will firmly address this issue and help drive the integration of secure, managed wired and wireless networks within French corporates," Pozo said.

Pascal Campourcy, Managing Director, Dynetcom, France, described Trapeze's RingMaster tools as particularly compelling from a reseller perspective.

"As a reseller, Trapeze's RingMaster will allow me to take a file of a potential customer's floor plan and design the entire WLAN network before the customer buys anything. Then, when the customer is ready to buy the equipment, their WLAN network is already designed, plus they have the configuration files already loaded and ready to be deployed. This powerful software tool, backed by our partnership with Trapeze, will help drive the integration of WLANs within the French corporate market," Campourcy said.

Trapeze's WLAN Mobility System™
The Trapeze wireless LAN system includes the following:

- Mobility Exchange™ (MX™) switch. A new class of networking device that delivers Identity-Based Networking. Since mobile enterprise users can connect to the WLAN from a variety of locations, the MX shifts the management focal point from device ports and fixed geography to user identities and the services they need no matter where they are. The MX integrates seamlessly with existing wired infrastructures and requires no changes to clients or network protocols.

- Mobility Point™ (MP™) access points. Devices which increase secure mobility and provide WLAN connectivity for users. MPs are fully controlled by the MX and have no local store of data. Keeping sensitive data on the MX rather than the MP eliminates the vulnerability most access points (APs) create by leaving substantial network and user intelligence open to hacking or theft in an unsecured location.

- Mobility System Software (MSS™). Leveraging the integrated architecture of the MX and MP across an entire network of MXs, the MSS allows them to operate as a single mobility system. In conjunction with RingMaster, it also plays a crucial role in rogue detection and reporting.

- RingMaster™. Trapeze's planning, deployment and management tool suite enables IT managers to perform pre- and post-deployment planning, configuration, verification, management and optimization of the WLAN infrastructure.
