TRAPEZE NETWORKS BRINGS MOBILITY, SECURITY, AND SERVICES OUTDOORS WITH THE NEW MOBILITY POINT 620

PLEASANTON, Calif., March 6, 2006 - Trapeze Networks™, the award-winning provider of the wireless LAN (WLAN) Mobility System™, today announced the availability of its outdoor Mobility Point™ 620 (MP-620), a dual radio 802.11a and 802.11b/g access point (AP) that complements Trapeze’s indoor Mobility Points.  Like all Trapeze MPs, the MP-620 is highly secure, simple to deploy, easy to manage, and supports any mix of service – data, voice and video.

With this new outdoor Mobility Point, users can access network services and roam campus-wide, across courtyards and between buildings, with full security.  The MP-620 can also link buildings wirelessly, providing high bandwidth for LAN interconnection and eliminating the considerable expense associated with installing fiber.  Optional parallel, redundant link configurations ensure resiliency in the event of a wireless link failure.  When higher performance is needed, wireless links can be bonded to achieve aggregate speeds in excess of 100 Mbps.

The MP-620 has a weatherized package, suitable for extreme outdoor environments, complete with a lightning arrestor.  A variety of external antenna options ensure that the coverage area can be tailored to meet application requirements.

“A race track is the reverse of a typical enterprise network,” said Frank Basso, assistant director of communications at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, the premier road racing venue in the United States located on the Monterey Peninsula in California.  “All the action is outdoors.  The prospect of offering our staff, as well as the fans that attend races, Internet access with full mobility throughout our facility is extremely attractive.  Trapeze brings mobility, service richness and security outdoors with their new MP-620, making it a great choice for this deployment.”

Complete Mobility, Highly Secure, Any Services
The MP-620 is compatible with the entire line of Trapeze Mobility Exchange™ WLAN switches and other Mobility Point access points.  Full mobility is supported across networks built with indoor and outdoor Mobility Points.  Session persistence is ensured with full support for fast roaming between access points, a critical consideration for applications such as voice.

Security is a particular concern in outdoor deployments since APs may be accessible to anyone and it is far more difficult to regulate who is in proximity to the wireless signal.  MP-620s do not store any vital network or user configuration information, so they can safely be installed in unsecured areas without fear of hacking.

All of the security features of the Trapeze Mobility System Software™ are supported, including any type of authentication and encryption as well as wireless intrusion prevention to detect unauthorized users and devices and protect against various kinds of attacks that can compromise service.   Security services are configured through RingMaster™, the Trapeze lifecycle network management application which has recently been upgraded to greatly simplify configuration tasks.

Availability and Pricing
Trapeze’s outdoor Mobility Point™ 620 (MP-620), dual radio 802.11a and 802.11b/g access point, is available now through Trapeze worldwide for $1799 (US).
